The reduced carb high-fat Paleo and ketogenic diets prevent Alzheimer's disease and promote easy weight reduction, neurologist Dr. David Perlmutter told ABC News. "Your key to weight reduction is to eat more fat," said Perlmutter. "Eat fat, get thin!"
Ideally, you should eat no more than Pai You Guo Sixty to eighty grams of carbs each day, said Perlmutter, who said a high-carb diet causes blood sugar spikes, which fuel inflammation. Inflammation is what spurs most degenerative diseases, including diabetes, dementia, heart disease and cancer, he was quoted saying.
Perlmutter said even slight elevations in blood sugar have shown to increase the risk of Alzheimer's, citing an August 2013 report within the Colonial Journal of Medicine. According to Perlmutter, we are able to prevent Alzheimer's along with other degenerative illnesses by following a gluten-free, low carb, high-fat ketogenic-style diet.
Sadly, the U.S. government has long advocated a high-carb, low-fat diet, suggesting that Americans eat three to six areas of grains a day -- a recommendation Perlmutter called unhealthy and misguided.

Dr. Perlmutter joins a growing number of medical professionals who are sold on the health benefits from the reduced carb, high-fat ketogenic and Paleo diets. Dr. Terry Wahls, a health care provider and professor in the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, has reversed her progressive multiple sclerosis by following the Paleo diet.
Wahls, who was identified as having MS in 2000, developed her very own personalized Paleo diet regime known as the Wahls Protocol, and it has been managing her multiple sclerosis for the past seven years together with her program.
